I moved to Midtown a few weeks ago, and was looking for someone to spruce up the front of my apartment. My landlord wasn’t going to help pay for it, but I was determined to add some color to my front yard. I called CuttingEdge Landscape because they put a flyer on my door. The owner, Alex answered the phone and made an appointment to come over and take a look. I didnt really know what I wanted, but had an idea in my head. Alex gave great suggestions on types of bushes and plants that would not only look great, but were also easier to take care of since I am at work most of the time and would’t have time to maintain my yard all the time. I just recently hired CuttingEdge Landscape to remodel my backyard. At first I hired other contractor to do the work on my yard, but I noticed that their prep work was not good. So, I fired them and hired CuttingEdge Landscape Services. When Alex showed up to checkout my yard for an estimate, he said that nothing was done by the previous contractor. So, I hired CuttingEdge Landscape Company.
They excavated about 14 cu yards of dirt from my backyard. Properly configured irrigation system, installed flagstone, new sod, bark, and plants. My yard now looks very beautiful. Hope they use my backyard pictures on their website.

Cuttingedge landscape is a great company and has awesome customer service. I called them for an estimate and the gentleman that came out was very friendly and knowledgeable about his work.
I had called 3 other companies out to give me estimates for putting in a new lawn & sprinklers in my front yard. The estimates varied in price, but I made my choice based off gut instinct and overall impression I got after meeting with Cuttingedge.
Now I have a beautiful front yard and all my neighbors are thrilled to see fresh cut green grass when they pass by. The great thing about it is they also installed a timer for the sprinklers and now I don’t have to worry about forgetting to go outside and turn them on/off. I already referred them to a couple of my friends and all of them are equally as happy as I am.

Alex worked us into their very busy schedule to trim our trees. They showed up on time, set up and did a great job! Our trees were very overgrown and they trimmed them for structure and aesthetics. It poured down rain while they were working, but they continued. The clean up was great, and they were professional and courtes. Also, their quote was fair and reasonable.

Cutting Edge Landscape Services did a fantastic clean-up job on my mother’s yard. Not only did they have 2-3 years of weeds, bushes, small trees, and thorny blackberry vines to de-root (moreover, at our request and for an additional charge, without chemical treatments), but they also worked around numerous plants and trees that my mother requested to be spared (just one example: they found one of her herb plans growing in a thicket of weeds two-feet high, and they managed to remove all the weeds and preserve the herb plant). Pavement and brickwork that we had forgotten were excavated, to my mother’s delight. A huge pile of old and broken gardenware and accessories were thrown out, while the good stuff was kindly put under the patio. The pit in our front yard was extracted of some rocks and filled with dirt from an old pile in our back yard. Even our pots of plants were de-weeded, the neighbors’ overhanding tree limbs were cut off, and the hydrangea bushes received an overdue pruning. Our neighbors oohed and aahhed at the results, and my mother remarked, “My garden looks so big now!”
Alex was present the entire time with his team, except when he went to get a quick lunch for them. He worked alongside them and took on the hardest part (extracting tree roots under two boulders) himself. Never in the several hours that the team was in our yard did I see them slacking. In fact, if you can watch them work, it’s a treat, because it is non-stop energy, activity, and determination happening all over the scene to make your yard look awesome! We didn’t ask for it, but the team spread the rocks that they found in the yard evenly over the exposed dirt, so the dirt doesn’t fly away and the yard looks great even without things planted in place of the volunteer bushes, weeds, trees, vines, etc.
Alex took time throughout the process to walk and talk through his recommendations both before and after. He also adjusted some leaky sprinkler heads and set our sprinkler system timers to water more effectively.
We are very pleased to recommend Alex’s company to anyone looking for honest, hard-working, fast, and quality work on a landscape. In fact, we plan to hire his company again to improve our sprinklers further (in case you were wondering, he did not pressure us at all in that and we are going with a mid-level solution; Alex is great at just giving you insight on the state of your yard and explaining various options for how to address it).
TIP: Cutting Edge Landscape Services seems quite in-demand and busy sometimes, but it is worth pursuing their services. Alex himself is easy to talk to and very responsible–once he says he’ll get the job done, you can be certain that he will! We ourselves did not have to wait long for Alex and his team to come do the job. And like I said, they don’t slack, either.

Alex is the man! We had a main line pipe burst in our front yard. I called Cutting Edge and they came right out. Alex surveyed the landscape and gave me an estimate up front about how much he thought it would cost for the whole job but that he’s have a better understanding when he got to the pipe.
When he did get to the pipe, patched it and tried a quick cure on it so we could get our water back that night. Unfortunately, the seal didn’t hold. This is how I know he’s honest: he took fault for the burst and did not charge for the re-patch labor.
In the end, the job costed less than his quote and we were set up back to normal. He did a great job and I highly recommend him!

Super pleased yet again! I used Alex last year to cut a tree down, and we decided to do a full gut job in our front yard, and he was the guy to do it. There was a lot of work to be done, and he finished the job so fast and quoted us a great price, and the lawn turned out great! He had to remove 4 trees, completely level our ground. Install new irrigation system, lay out new cement, install grass, plants. The whole 9 yards! I was excited when it was all finished like night and day. I can proudly say we have the nicest lawn on the block! Great customer service. Alex is hardworking,innovative, and is committed to the client’s goals and desired outcomes. I can’t say enough about how pleased I and my family are with Alex’s repairs and revitalization of my parents’ sprinkler system in their new “old” house.
My parents inherited a decrepit sprinkler system that had overwatered the property so much that it was marsh-like in the backyard. I managed to google the manual for their sprinkler system and turned it off for the rainy season. By spring the marsh was gone but as the legendary heat and sun of Sacramento summers arrived, the lawn began looking sunburned and near death. I spent more hours than I’d care to admit trying to untangle the system, but thankfully Alex arrived on scene, saving my sanity and the lawn. Alex took on the job that to be honest was a true nightmare- a haphazard patchwork of a poorly placed, ill- maintained system with expired parts, pipes, and sprinkler heads.
Alex drilled down to discover what was and wasn’t working with the system. He was willing to work with our budgetary constraints (repair existing, not an entirely new system) and worked both solo and with an employee. In a couple of visits, Alex had solved major problems (leaks, overspray, poor placement, faulty timers- yes, he found another timer hidden in the garage!) and put in new sprinkler heads when needed, even installing nifty daily use water saving-compliant sprinklers for the front lawn- which now is an emerald carpet compared to the bleached crewcut of yore.
He took the time to walk me through the repairs and new systems, responded quickly to a text when an issue came up that freaked me out but was not major and he promptly scheduled a time to troubleshoot the issue. Alex is incredibly hardworking, reliable, trustworthy, and creative. You will never find a better landscaping service in Sacramento. Highly recommend!
